Becoming Aware Of My Bubble

Once I’d found my way onto manual settings and was beginning to settle into the world of photography, I began to realise how much bad photography exists today and how much of it I consumed without realising. People own cameras without having to purchasing them thanks to smartphones and we are constant consuming photography from our friends and family on social media. This photography is not meant to be art and is not captured by professionals, and phrases such as “you are what you eat” and “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future” have always had the same point. You will become what you consume the most. Your behaviour, expressions, habits and to an extent personality are defined by what influences you surround yourself with.

Looking for new perspectives around my home

I realised that seeing these photos did nothing to inspire me and it gave me nothing to strive towards. Photography on social media is not meant to be professional or have beautiful framing, it is to capture what is happening without care for “the frame”. I needed to be consuming work far better than mine that gave me inspiration and fostered a sense of wonder within me. So I began to search for inspiring photographs from talented artists that inspired creativity and drive within me. Photographs that created an emotional reaction within me and made me strive to improve my own work. Not my mum's selfies on facebook.
